Singer Teams up With F1’s Williams For 500 HP Naturally Aspirated 911

Porsche restorations specialists Singer have teamed up with Williams Advanced Engineering to produce a new, extremely light weight flat-six engine that will make up to 500 horsepower.

Singer is remaining tight lipped on the project, however, it revealed the engine will displace 4.0-liters and will also be naturally aspirated and air cooled. As we mentioned, the output will sit in 500 hp range, while the red-line will be north of 9,000 RPM. Furthermore, it will be extremely lightweight, with carbon fiber, magnesium, titanium, and Inconel all being used in its construction.

In addition to Williams Advanced Engineering, an engineering offshoot of the Williams F1 team, Singer has also partnered with Hans Mezger on the project. Mezger was formerly a Porsche engineer and was the man responsible for the 917’s 1100 horsepower turbocharged flat-six and also lent his expertise to the original 911 Turbo. Indeed, there’s a star-studded cast in this German blockbuster.

“Singer is delighted to be working with Williams Advanced Engineering and Hans Mezger to offer our clients a ‘next level’ of restoration and modification services for their Porsche 911s,” Rob Dickinson, Singer founder, said in a statement. “With careful and dedicated development, this iconic air-cooled engine has much to give both its existing devotees and a generation of new enthusiasts.”

“As an admirer of the 911, I’m thrilled that we’re working with Singer and its clients on these restorations,” added Jonathan Williams, Williams Heritage Director.

It’s not clear when more information on this exciting project will be available, but it would certainly be appropriate for the engine to make its debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Waterfest Moves to Atco Dragway

Waterfest 24 will be held at Atco Dragway, in Atco, New Jersey. The summer event will take place at its new venue on July 21 and 22. Long held in Englishtown, New Jersey, the festival has been such a large part of the VW scene that the latest iteration of the Golf even comes with optional “Englishtown” wheels . The new venue, however, is an NHRA drag track a scant 52 miles southwest of Englishtown. The ¼ mile drag track opened in 1960, which makes it the oldest drag strip in New Jersey. The announcement came today on a social media post that announced the new location. Waterfest is North America’s largest VW/Audi show. As many 20,000 people show up for the annual show, making the second largest show in the world—with Worthersee being number one. 2018 will be Waterfest’s 24 th year in existence.
