The 2018 Volkswagen Passat GT will arrive before the end of the year.
Based on the Volkswagen Passat GT Concept that debuted at the 2016 L.A. Auto Show, the production version will closely resemble the concept, according to a report from Digital Trends. Although the German automaker hasn’t confirmed when the sedan will make its debut, it will go on sale before the end of the year as a 2018 model.
The original concept was a design study based on the U.S. model built in Chattanooga, Tennessee and was developed specifically for the North American market. Expect the production Passat GT to feature most of the bits and pieces found on the concept, including its black mirror covers, rear spoiler, and red accents. There will also be model-specific wheels on all four corners, while the interior benefits from a set of sport seats up front.
As for the powertrain, Volkswagen will stick with the 3.6-liter VR6 engine found in the concept, differentiating it from the Passat R-Line and offering at least 280 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
It’s possible the German automaker will unveil the car online before it makes a public debut at the 2017 L.A. Auto Show as a follow-up to the concept. Either way, look for it to arrive dealerships before 2018 with a price tag around $30,000.
