Watch: The World’s Fastest Shed Goes 96mph!

Some of the maddest car conversions in recent memory come from the UK, and that’s no surprise given the liberal British road-registration rules that allow anyone to build almost anything-on-wheels in their shed – and then make it road legal. But what happens when a guy wants to make his shed into a road legal car?

Well, that’s exactly what gardener Kevin Nicks did when he converted his Volkswagen Passat into a drivable shed in 2015. The 52-year-old man took seven months and ֲ£5000 to install a steel frame and wood panels on the poor Passat, and then discovered that registering it for road use is not an easy task. Red tape meant Nicks had to wait for almost six months before the shed was declared road legal – even enlisting the help of then British Prime Minster, David Cameron.

Unsurprisingly, that’s just the beginning of the story: Back in 2015, Kevin and his converted-Passat broke the Guinness World Record for the “World’s Fastest Shed”, and earlier this year he also broke the shed speed record on sand (as if there was such record, before his).

A few days ago Nicks went for another attempt at the Guinness World Record, and to help the 200hp, 2.8 litre V6 overcome the shed’s two-ton weight and brick-like aerodynamics, he added Nitros for an extra-boost of 75hp.

Kevin was hoping to break the 100mph mark but fell short due to high winds, yet still managed to surpass his previous result and set a new world record at 96.8mph.

In the week leading up to the record attempt, Nicks drove the shed some 700 miles on a UK motorway in an attempt to raise money for the hospice which cared for his mother before she died of cancer earlier in 2017.

Audi Teases A7 Details with New Video

Audi’s gearing up to unveil the latest iteration of the A7, and to get you excited they’ve released this teaser video focusing on the details. The lights, the lines, the interior are all teased here, and though on its own the video doesn’t give us a strong sense of what the whole car will look like, with all of the other details we’ve seen so far we now have a pretty good sense of what’s coming. As you might expect, the updated A7 will look broadly similar to the outgoing A7, but will differ in the details. Based on what we’ve seen, the changes look good. As was reported yesterday, we’re expecting a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine, a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo, a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, and an RS7 that could reportedly make up to 700 hp thanks to the Porsche Panamera’s hybrid drivetrain.
