In the world of automotive conversions, turning a VW into a restaurant actually isn’t that weird. The cubic proportions of the Type 2 make it perfect for vending. Turning a Beetle into a café, though, now that’s a little odd.
But that’s exactly what Denver’s Matthew Pendleton has done with his 1968 Beetle.
Converting the back seat into an ersatz brewing station, the young artist can hang out wherever the customers are and brew them a pour over or even an espresso.
It’s all very compact, but with chalkboards hanging down from his serving window and a big coffee cup on top, it’s hard to miss this Beetle.
The red and white Type 1 café, isn’t Pendleton’s only source of income, but “the long-term goal is for On The Road Coffee to take over the daytime job,” he told The Denver Post.
A full-time employee at a local record store, he’s working towards making enough money to leave that job and focus on his art.
