It is part of the critic’s job to constantly strive for more. Much like brushing your teeth, the job of improving a car is never really done, it just has to stop eventually. A critic’s job is to investigate why a carmaker stopped where it did and ask for more. Because that’s how improvement happens.
So, for a critic to call a car nearly perfect is high praise indeed. Maybe the highest. And that’s what Carfection’s Alex Goy has to say about the Mk7.5 Golf R.
Over in that Kingdom which is United, they already have access to the updated Golf, and as a result, they have access to the updated Golf R. The updates are minor, but Goy says they’re good.
“They’re the kind of updates that’ll make owners of the current Golf R feel bad, but they won’t change your life,” he says. And with some more power to boot, it’s all good news.
What’s so special about the Golf R, though, is what’s always been good about it. “It’s never ugly,” says Goy, “so it’ll fit in wherever you go.” On top of that, though, it’s hilariously fast, it’s sensible, it’ll propel you in great comfort, and it’s a Golf.
“It’s a sensible way of going very, very quickly.”
