Find of the Day: So Euro It Hurts

North American enthusiasts complain that we don’t get all the good stuff from Volkswagen. Europe buyers get more colors, more engine choices, and more stand-alone options. Many owners spend their hard earned money on bits and pieces from Germany to give their U.S. model that Euro look. Whole companies, like Orchid Euro, have sprung up just to get buyers what they want.

One owner has gone a step further and imported a 1993 Golf GL directly from Germany. The seller states the car was brought here in 1999 as a ‘gray market’ automobile. The ad says the car is 100% legal for our roads with a clear title and documentation is included.

For maximum Euro-ness, the car features a 1.9L TDI engine. The Golf started its life with a 1.6L engine, which was swapped out for the turbo oil burner. The motor and transmission have had a number of improvements including all new seals, new VR6 clutch, new starter, new throw out bearing, and much more. On top of that, performance upgrades include a larger fuel pump, bigger nozzles, chip tuning, coil over suspension, larger downpipe, and a Magnaflow exhaust.

European goodness abounds on the exterior and interior of this little kraut. There are smoked headlights, turn signals, and taillights. The lowered suspension highlights the aftermarket wheels, and there are a substantial front lip spoiler and body kit. Topping the car off is a Thule roof rack with basket.

The interior really shows the car’s straight-from-Germany roots. As buttoned down as their people are, the Germans love expressive interior fabrics, and this ’93 does not disappoint. The seats are covered in a bold pattern featuring a blue and purple pattern. The owner has swapped out the original steering wheel for one from a Polo.

This 1993 German beauty is located in Lenexa Kansas and asking price is $7000 for everything or $6500 without the roof rack and monster mats. One look at this Golf on the Samba and you’ll agree: it’s so Euro it hurts.

Project SportWagen: Going Stage 2 with APR

Audi Teases A7 Details with New Video

Audi’s gearing up to unveil the latest iteration of the A7, and to get you excited they’ve released this teaser video focusing on the details. The lights, the lines, the interior are all teased here, and though on its own the video doesn’t give us a strong sense of what the whole car will look like, with all of the other details we’ve seen so far we now have a pretty good sense of what’s coming. As you might expect, the updated A7 will look broadly similar to the outgoing A7, but will differ in the details. Based on what we’ve seen, the changes look good. As was reported yesterday, we’re expecting a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine, a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo, a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, and an RS7 that could reportedly make up to 700 hp thanks to the Porsche Panamera’s hybrid drivetrain.
