A fix for 84,390 Volkswagen Passat diesel vehicles has been approved.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board (CARB) have announced an approval for 2012-2014 Passat diesel vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. A fix for manual transmissions has not yet been approved.
The latest fix joins the approval from January for approximately 67,000 vehicles from the 2015 model year. That still however, leaves about 325,000 older diesel vehicles that still do not have a fix approved.
Last year, the German automaker agreed to buy back up to 475,000 cheating diesel vehicles equipped with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, or offer fixes if regulators approve them. Recently last month, Volkswagen gained approval to sell some of the 2015 diesel vehicles in the U.S. it had repurchased, and the company says it accounted for nearly 12 percent of sales in April. It is reported that Volkswagen has bought back or terminated leases on about 280,000 vehicles.
