Last week, VW took to the annual celebration of all things GTI to announce the arrival of a new model based on its Touring Car Racer.
The Golf GTI TCR Concept featured a limited slip differential, a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, and special air inlets to get more air into the 2.0-liter engine that’s good for 286 hp, 273 lb-ft of torque, and an optional top speed of 164 mph.
Exciting though that is, the Golf GTI TCR race car that inspired it is, as you’d expect, even more exciting. Since the hardcore racecar is lighter, faster, churns out 350 hp, and is eligible for racing series around the world, you might expect the car to be completely out of reach.
But that’s not the case. If you have a few thousand dollars to spare (okay, more than just a few), you can buy one of your own. So VW made an ad for the car.
Sure, there are a few “luxuries” missing, but those omissions are actually advantages depending on who you ask and we can’t help but envy this couple and their ability to see what really matters.
