Chattanooga’s Volkswagen assembly has been rolling like a train, producing more Passats than you could reasonably be expected to shake a sensibly sized stick at.
In case you lost track of how many Passats have rolled off the line, VW today announced that it has made the 700,000th Passat at the plant.
And it wasn’t just any old Passat, either, it was one of VW’s fancy new GTs. Endowed with a 3.0-liter VR6, singing its song through a set of sporty pipes, and rolling down the road on a sports suspension, the Passat GT was finished in Reflex Silver.
“The Passat GT is an example of how the Volkswagen North American Region is incorporating a local perspective into our global engineering expertise,” said Dr. Matthias Erb, Chief Engineering Officer. “The collaboration between U.S. engineers and designers allows us to create vehicles that meet the needs and desires of customers here.”
The Passat was the first model produced out of VW’s Tennessee plant. Designed specifically for the North American market, the Passat first rolled off the line in 2011 and has been chugging along ever since, like a certain Chattanooga choo choo.
“The history of Volkswagen Chattanooga is intertwined with the history of the U.S. Passat.
