The dumpster fire that was the end of Red Bull Global Rallycross series may have escaped your notice, but suffice it to say that the series is well and truly dead. That leaves VW with a couple of winning Beetles, a pair of enormously talented drivers, and no series to race.
No series to race until now, that it. Rising like a phoenix from the ashes of the GRC, Americas Rallycross (ARX) will be a four-race series over the course of the summer starting (weirdly) in England at Silverstone’s new rallycross circuit.
ARX will be an offshoot of the World Rallycross Championship (WRX) which mostly runs in Europe.
“Having World Rallycross expand its reach to the U.S. is going to make the competition so much more accessible for fans to better understand the sport,” said Tanner Foust, driver, in a statement. “ARX will be a great platform to find new fans and spread the word about rallycross.”
The team will continue to be run with Andretti Motorsport. The same team was responsible for VW’s domination of the GRC’
“I’m excited to compete with ARX,” said Scott Spe4ed, VW’s three-time GRC championship-winning driver. “The competition is going to be tough, but our Beetles are ready. I think this new series will be a great place to push our team and the cars in 2018.”
The ARX series will begin in Silverstone on May 25-27 and will continue on to Austin, Texas in July, Trois-Rivieres, Canada in August, and back to Austin in September.
