The chassis and powertrain package currently serving in the Porsche Panamera and Panamera Sport Turismo may spawn a two-door coupe model, according to a new report.
German publication AutoBild claims a front-engine, two-door model could arrive by as early as 2019. There’s not much information on this supposed 928 successor, but the automaker has stated publically that it’s open to such an idea.
“We’ve not ruled it out (a Panamera Coupe), but our focus is firmly on the electric cars we have in development,” Porsche CEO Oliver Blume told Car Magazine in early 2017.
While Porsche said last year it was focused firmly on the development of the Mission E electric sedan, it seems possible that a successful development process for the electric car may have pushed the Panamera coupe further up in line. We do think that 2019 seems unrealistically early for such a model to arrive, especially with Porsche having just recently introduced the Panamera and Panamera Sport Turismo, but we’re remaining optimistic.
The AutoBild report also indicates Porsche plans to launch a Cayenne Coupe this year. This product seems like a no-brainer for Porsche if it’s looking to boost sales and market share in regions like the US and China, so we wouldn’t be surprised if it actually did debut this year.
