Be a Man with a Van in a Hurry With the New Transporter Sportline

Yet another Volkswagen vehicle is being graced with the Sportline moniker, but this time it may not be quite what you expect: the Transporter T32 Kombi.

The Transporter is Volkswagen’s European delivery van, and now transplant-organ delivery people and… other delivery people who are in a hurry can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the van gets the sportline treatment.

Not only will this premium model get leather seats, 18-inch bicolor alloys, and front and rear spoilers; it also gets a choice of 2.0L BiTDI engines with (roughly) 180 hp or 200 hp.

The first engine is mated to a seven-speed DSG gearbox, while the second gives the choice of that gearbox or the six-speed manual. Unfortunately, the second, more powerful engine won’t be available until 2017.

The 180 hp engine, though, can be ordered right now by subjects of her maj with deliveries starting next month. Prices start at £28,220

For all its size and its global reach, Volkswagen is still, in many ways, a deeply human company. There was, for instance, the Bugatti Veyron an ego project if ever there was one. More 3.0-Liter TDI Settlement Details Expected by January 31

Volkswagen and the TDI Plaintiff’s Steering Committee were in court today for another status conference following the agreement in principal reached earlier this week. Little new information was given at the conference held before Judge Charles Breyer today, but the court ordered the parties to develop a formal settlement agreement, class action notices, and a class notice plan by January 31, 2017. For now, though, owners still don’t know how much to expect in compensation. Elizabeth Cabraser, lead Counsel for the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee reaffirmed in a statement today that the compensation would be “substantial.” The potential cost to Volkswagen is widely reported to exceed $1 billion, though, with an additional $225 million going into an environmental trust to help offset excess emissions.
