St. Patrick’s Day is a difficult holiday for car makers. By its nature it involves drinking, and that can be tricky to negotiate when drinking and driving are increasingly—and rightly—vilified.
VW has managed to avoid landmines and leprechauns, though, with its latest video, released today on its Youtube page.
Their ad “dia dhuit” (which means hello in Irish) sidesteps the topic of alcohol altogether, focusing instead on VW’s City Emergency Brake and Pedestrian Monitoring, which help to stop you before you crash.
I’ll stop short of ruining the punchline (a doubly brilliant pun for my purposes here), but suffice it to say that leprechauns and their height are involved.
The ad ties in to VW’s announcement today that it is committed to making Automatic Emergency Braking a standard feature on new cars starting in 2022.
So take a quick break and enjoy, and most of all have a happy St. Patrick’s Day.
