The 2016 British Touring Car Championship will have a full 32 car grid thanks to its newest team, Bubble and Kick Racing (Team BKR). The team announced this morning that it will race two Volkswagen Passat CCs and has hired Aaron Smith and Mark Howard to pilot the machines.
The cars previously belonged to Team BMR, where Smith also raced, so he should be familiar with the machines. The Irish driver’s exit from BMR came on the heels of a public disagreement with his then teammate Jason Plato in last year’s final round.
Smith was without a seat until this announcement and will now start his sixth season in BTCC and his third season in a CC.
Mark Howard, meanwhile, enters the BTCC having won the Masters class title in the Ranault Clio Cup UK last year.
This is a sort of new start for Team BKR as well, who are working out of a newly built workshop and who have a”professional new image [and] equipment.” When they aren’t preparing their race cars, Team BKR tune and track prep cars for customers.
You can watch Smith and his delightful Irish brogue describe his pole lap in the car from last season’s Thruxton race below.
