He was behind the wheel of a Rimac Concept One when it happened.
According to a tweet from The Grand Tour’s official account, Hammond was involved in a serious crash after completing the Hemburg Hill Climb in Switzerland. Fortunately he didn’t suffer any serious injuries and was conscious and talking following the accident. Hammond was able to climb out of the car himself before it burst into flames.
Jeremy Clarkson also tweeted, saying it was the “biggest crash” he’s ever seen and the most frightening. Hammond was flown by Air Ambulance to a hospital in St. Gallen, where he was checked over, revealing a fracture to his knee.
Nobody else was in the Rimac Concept One when the accident occurred, and the cause of the crash is currently unknown but is being investigated.
