You might remember the widebody Golf GTI that was part of VW’s “enthusiast vehicle fleet” that toured the US last summer. It’s wearing a massively wide-body, borrows design cues from the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and has a stripped and race-ready interior. And a great big roof box, because why not?
The car was created by Sam Dobbins, the creative director of Vossen wheels and a long-shooting automotive photographer. Now he’s uploaded a video explaining how and why his nearly-new GTI turned into this very custom car.
It started with a rear-ending and grew from there.
Watch the video and hear the rest of the story.
