Abt Bringing R8 Art Car to Worthersee

While the idea of an art car was popularized by BMW, ABT Sportsline sees no reason why they shouldn’t join in on the fun. The result is this Harlequinesque R8 that the tuners are taking to Worthersee.

Designed by artist/cartoonist/public speaker Timo Wuerz, the car is called “Nun Meets Abbot” (Abt being the German word for abbot) because, as ABT puts it, it might lead people into temptation.

If you’re interested in a similar, albeit less intricately wrapped R8, ABT is only too happy to help. With better exhausts and carbon tipped twin tailpipes, the ABT R8 makes some 630 hp. To go with the 20 extra horses, ABT also shaved off 50 lbs. Finally the tuning house stuck some specially designed coilovers onto the car to make sure that it doesn’t handle as wildly as it looks.

Along with the R8, ABT will be bringing one of its RS4-R Avants. Making 530 hp and bedecked in aero mods, the Avant accelerates to 60 in just 3.8 seconds.

Check them out next month along the banks of Lake Wörth, May 9-12.

Project SportWagen: Going Stage 2 with APR

Barrett-Jackson just wrapped up its 46th annual Scottsdale auction, which set all kinds of records, including the sale of Kindig-It Design’s 1965 21-Window Deluxe Bus for $302,500 (pictured above and below). Not only did that bus set an auction record, it was the highest priced Volkswagen in Scottsdale that week. While it outdid the next closest VW by quite a margin, it wasn’t the only high priced VW at the show.
