Before you and your team of semi-professional rally mechanics take to the woods to inevitably win the WRC2 championship in your Polo GTI R5, Volkswagen Motorsport had to shake it down to make sure it was ready for competition.
We’ve been hearing over the past couple of weeks just how well things were going, with test driver Dieter Depping calling the car “very good, very quick and precise” after early testing, but we now know just what that looked like thanks to footage of the car now released.

The video comes from Colin Clark on Twitter and shows the Polo GTI R5 being driven by Pontus Tidemand in the Welsh Dyfi Forest.
As you might expect, the car looks and sounds fast with the little four-cylinder engine ripping through the Welsh forest with all the sonorousness of Tom Jones on his daily dragon hunt.
Although it’s still under camo in these shots, you can see what the car looks like in a Volkswagen livery here.
