Two New Electric VW Crossovers Expected by 2020

Volkswagen is launching two new electric SUVs to follow up the I.D. hatchback, and they should arrive by the end of the decade.

The first will be the I.D. Crozz that we’ve seen a few times but was most recently shown and confirmed for production at the LA auto show last week. The second one, though, is one we haven’t seen yet.

Klaus Bischoff, VW design chief, told Auto Express that we’ll see a conventional SUV concept that will sell alongside the SUV-coupe I.D. Crozz.

The more traditional SUV will take design cues from the T-Roc and Tiguan, slotting in at around the same size as the Tiguan. The more upright roof will give more headroom and more cargo space, but Bischoff said that it may share a nose with the Crozz. For this pair, think Mercedes-Benz GLC and GLC Coupe, but with more electricity.

Like the hatch, the crossovers will be primarily rear-drive. A motor in the back will do the brunt of the work, with a second electric motor up front for when drive is needed at both ends.

Other, more emotional electrics are being considered by the brand, including a coupe that could replace the Scirocco, as well as an electric Beetle.

Project SportWagen: Going Stage 2 with APR

Audi Teases A7 Details with New Video

Audi’s gearing up to unveil the latest iteration of the A7, and to get you excited they’ve released this teaser video focusing on the details. The lights, the lines, the interior are all teased here, and though on its own the video doesn’t give us a strong sense of what the whole car will look like, with all of the other details we’ve seen so far we now have a pretty good sense of what’s coming. As you might expect, the updated A7 will look broadly similar to the outgoing A7, but will differ in the details. Based on what we’ve seen, the changes look good. As was reported yesterday, we’re expecting a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine, a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo, a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, and an RS7 that could reportedly make up to 700 hp thanks to the Porsche Panamera’s hybrid drivetrain.
