“‘Tis But a Scratch,” Says Brazilian Bus

When Ferdinand Porsche settled on the idea of making a rear-engine people’s car, he was doubtless convinced that this was the best layout because of the mechanical efficiencies, the high grip, and the packaging advantages. It’s unlikely that he considered falling trees, though.

After a recent storm in Brazil, a microbus proved it’s tree-proof all the same. The bus was nearly cut in half and to any observer would have looked completely destroyed, but thanks to the layout, this bus still drives.

Now, all things considered, a front-engine layout might have been even better in this scenario—we’ve all seen Clarkson drive a half-a-Panda–but even there the fuel lines might have been an issue.

Whatever the case, I think we can all agree that this VW should be preserved in its current state, painted black, and called the Black Knight.

2018 Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster Review

PZM 73rd Rally Poland Kicks Off

The WRC is in Poland and after only one stage there are three Volkswagens in the top five. Today’s special stage at the Mikolajki Arena is the first stage, but the rally doesn’t begin in earnest until Friday. Today’s super special stage was less than two minutes long, and less than a second separates the top five drivers. Hyundai Motorsport’s Thierry Neuville tops the charts today, followed closely by Volkswagen’s Andreas Mikkelsen. Sebastien Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala are in fourth and fifth, respectively. Expect Ogier to climb the rankings, though. Not only did he win the rally last year, he has won every year since 2013.
