Strong ratings in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) crash tests means that the Tiguan, when equipped with Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking, earns a 2017 Top Safety Pick award.
“We are so pleased to receive the IIHS Top Safety Pick award for the all-new Tiguan,” said Derrick Hatami, Executive VP of Sales, Marketing, and Aftersales. “This award demonstrates Volkswagen’s longstanding commitment to vehicle safety and the development of innovative technologies.”
To earn the rating, the Tiguan had to earn a “good” rating in frontal impact moderate overlap; frontal impact small overlap; side impact; roof strength; and head restraints. On top of which, it needed to offer an emergency braking system, called Front Assist at VW. The Tiguan not only offers the system, Front Assist earned a Superior rating from the IIHS.
The Tiguan also offers Automatic Post-Collision Braking and it’s the only car in its class to do so. The system is standard on all trims and applies the brakes after a crash to prevent the car from rolling into another accident or into another lane.
On top of that, the Tiguan also offers Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Traffic Alert, and more to keep you from getting into an accident in the first place.
