Volkswagen’s design team can be proud, knowing that their designs are well appreciated in the wake of another pair of awards for the futuristic Budd-e concept and the handsome Tiguan. The two cars have won “Best of Best” accolades from the German Design Council.
The German Design Council recognizes excellent product design at its Automotive Brand Contest. The Council hands out Best of Best awards for products that get top ratings from its panel of judges.
The Tiguan won its Best of Best prize in the “Exterior, Volume Brand” category for its brand new design.
“The second-generation Tiguan has achieved a new level of independence: its appearance is now unmistakable—a sporty SUV clearly distinguished from the competition,” say the Council in a release. “The proportions are correct and the positioning, even within the Volkswagen family, is unequivocal.”
This is at least the Tiguan’s third design award, as it has won both iF Design and Plus X awards in recent months.
The Budd-e, meanwhile, the all-electric concept first unveiled at CES in Las Vegas earlier this year, earned its Best of Best accolade in the “Concept” category.
“The avant-garde Budd-e minivan shows how an innovative car company is presenting the mobility of the future,” say the Council. “With its iconic design, it is building on the history of the brand and the legendary predecessors—and is giving us a clear view into the future.”
Audi, Skoda, and SEAT were also celebrated at the Automotive Brand Contest.
