At the Geneva Motor Show in 2015, Volkswagen subsidiary Italdesign Giugiaro revealed the GEA, a concept car that connected to smart home appliances and security systems. Now Volkswagen is looking to make a similar project come true with the help of LG.
The two companies—VW and LG—signed a memorandum of understanding today on joint research and development of a connected car platform. The two will use Volkswagen’s Cross-Over-Platform to create a car that can connect to your home.
Taking advantage of the fast approaching Internet of Things, the car will allow drivers to control and monitor smart devices in their home, like lights, security systems, and appliances. VW and LG also intend to develop a context-sensitive notification system that can deliver messages to the driver in an intuitive and safe way.
“We think that LG’s expertise in smart technology together with Volkswagen’s leadership in the automotive sector will revolutionise the way drivers interct with their vehicles,” says Richard Choi, Head of LG Cloud Center.
