Top Gear Won’t Hire a Replacement for Chris Evans

Chris Evans announced on Twitter yesterday that he would no longer host Top Gear and today the show has announced that they won’t hire a new host to replace him.

Instead, Top Gear will continue next season with Matt Leblanc, Sabine Schmitz, Chris Harris, Rory Reid, and Eddie Jordan.

“We have no immediate plans to replace Chris Evans and do not expect to do so going forward,” a BBC spokesperson told UK newspaper The Evening Standard. The spokesperson went on to say that Evans left of his own volition and that the BBC fully respects the decision.

Evans’ decision to leave came after his first season’s finale, which suffered the worst ever ratings since Jeremy Clarkson took over the show in the early 2000s.

After announcing his departure yesterday over Twitter, Evans released a press release further explaining the move.

“I feel like my standing aside is the single best thing I can now do to help the cause,” he wrote in the release. “I have never worked with a more committed and driven team than the team I have worked with over the last twelve months.”

Evans will continue to work on his popular BBC Radio 2 show, but his departure comes amid revelations that the police are investigating him over claims that he sexually harassed a woman in the 1990s, reports The Evening Standard.
