Dr. Wolfgang Demmelbauer-Ebner is set to take over the role of Chief Engineering Officer in North America. There, he will oversee product development and engineering in the region.
Dr. Demmelbauer-Ebner takes over from Dr. Matthias Erb, who is going back to the mother ship in Wolfsburg to lead the brand’s Holistic User Experience division, whatever that is.
The incoming Dr. will have more than a little bit of responsibility on his shoulders. Since the Dieselgate scandal, all regions were given more autonomy. Volkswagen’s North American team has been deeply involved in the Atlas, the Jetta, the coming Passat, and will have some work to do when it comes to the VW’s electric push.
“I am excited to take on the challenge of growing the engineering footprint of Volkswagen’s North American Region, building on the outstanding work of Matthias Erb,” said Dr. Demmelbauer-Ebner. “With models such as the upcoming Volkswagen Atlas five-seater, we have more opportunities to demonstrate how Volkswagen engineering can draw on the worldwide best automotive engineering resources while satisfying the specific needs of North American owners.”
Before taking on this roll, Dr. Demmelbauer-Ebner worked internationally for Audi, SEAT, and Volkswagen and studied at the Technical University in Vienna.
