Volkswagen has just announced a big milestone for its plant in Chattanooga. The Tennessee plant has just hit 100,000 Atlas crossovers built.
The plant opened in 2011, and started off by building Passat sedans. It was the automaker’s first in the country since a Pennsylvania plant closed in 1988. In early 2017, the company started building the all-new Atlas midsize crossover there as well. The 100,000th Atlas was a 2019 SEL premium in pacific blue. It had the 3.6L V6 and eight-speed automatic.
“Our objective for the Atlas has been to assemble in America for Americans and we have been very encouraged by the success of the vehicle so far,” said VW Chattanooga CEO Antonio Pinto.
The automaker is planning on adding to its successes at the plant. In May it announced that a new five-seat SUV would be built at the plant as well. The facility employs approximately 3,500 people.
