According to a report published by WRC.com, Volkswagen Motorsport test driver Marcus Grönholm will begin testing their radically different 2017 World Rally Championship contender in the coming weeks. Thanks to changes in the FIA’s rulebook, 2017 FIA WRC contenders will benefit from a much more aggressive aerodynamics package including a larger rear wing, engine output will be raised to 380hp, cars will feature a 55mm wider track, and be 25kg lighter among other changes.
While the test car won’t be even remotely close to their final 2017 spec, Volkswagen clearly sees a benefit in getting out early to get real-world data on possible bodywork and engine specifications.
