Volkswagen Passenger Cars Delivers 3.40 Million Vehicles in Period to July

Continuing tailwind especially from European markets

In January to July this year, the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand delivered 3.40 million vehicles (January – July 2014: 3.56 million; -4.3 percent). Volkswagen Passenger Cars handed over 457,800 (July 2014: 491,600; -6.9 percent) vehicles to customers in July.

In Europe as a whole, the Volkswagen passenger Cars brand experienced a tailwind in the first seven months of the year and delivered 1.04 (1.00; +3.3 percent) million vehicles. Western Europe (without Germany) accounted for 558,200 (517,200; +7.9 percent) units. Deliveries in the home market of Germany rose by 5.9 percent to 360,700 (340,700) vehicles. There was a downward trend in sales up to July in central and eastern Europe; 118,100 (146,300; -19.3 percent) vehicles were delivered in this region. The main reason for this fall was the situation in Russia, where Volkswagen Passenger Cars handed over 42,500 (76,400; -44.3 percent) vehicles to customers.

In the Asia-Pacific region, the brand delivered 1.61 (1.72; -6.9 percent) million units, with the Chinese market (including Hong Kong) accounting for 1.48 (1.60; -7.7 percent) million deliveries. In the North America region, Volkswagen Passenger Cars delivered 343,600 (333,400; +3.1 percent) vehicles, including 205,700 (209,700; -1.9 percent) vehicles handed over to a new owner in the USA. In South America, deliveries from January to July fell to 288,400 (372,300; -22.5 percent) units. This figure included 214,400 (301,200; -29.0 percent) vehicles delivered in Brazil.

Waterfest Moves to Atco Dragway

Waterfest 24 will be held at Atco Dragway, in Atco, New Jersey. The summer event will take place at its new venue on July 21 and 22. Long held in Englishtown, New Jersey, the festival has been such a large part of the VW scene that the latest iteration of the Golf even comes with optional “Englishtown” wheels . The new venue, however, is an NHRA drag track a scant 52 miles southwest of Englishtown. The ¼ mile drag track opened in 1960, which makes it the oldest drag strip in New Jersey. The announcement came today on a social media post that announced the new location. Waterfest is North America’s largest VW/Audi show. As many 20,000 people show up for the annual show, making the second largest show in the world—with Worthersee being number one. 2018 will be Waterfest’s 24 th year in existence. Macau Gets Messy with 16-Car Pileup

The Macau Grand Prix is always good for an accident or two or 16— you may remember Audi’s race ending crash last year —and this year’s event didn’t disappoint. It didn’t take long for things to get messy on the tight road circuit. On the opening lap of the qualifying race a 16-car pileup caused the race to be suspended. Things kicked off when Daniel Juncadella hit a wall on the exit of Police bend, one of the tightest parts of the already tight circuit. The following car of Raffaele Marciello was able to avoid the carnage, but Laurens Vanthoor, who was in the upside-down Audi that ended the race last year, could not avoid Juncadella and together they blocked up the road pretty much completely. “I couldn’t see him [Juncadella] at first. Then I saw the car standing still,” Vanthoor told Motorsport. “I tried to brake but it was just understeering and I couldn’t do anything.
