When Lamborghini released the Urus they promised that it would be involved in motorsport, and now it’s making good on that promise with the Urus ST-X.
But a big heavy SUV that’s better suited to the road than the woods doesn’t really have an obvious racing series to compete in. So Lamborghini is making its own.
The single-make racing series “will mix track with off-road racing,” according to Lamborghini. And Squadra Corse will be on hand to support racers to make the series an arrive and drive affair.
Running alongside the Super Trofeo, it will race its first races in Europe and the Middle East in 2020.
To make sure these Uruses (Uri?) are safe to race, Lamborghini has fitted them with a steel roll cage, a fire extinguishing system, and an FT3 tank.
The concept (pictured) has also been designed to look as impressive as possible, wearing Mantis green, Lambo has left a portion of the hood unpainted to expose the carbon fiber. The vents up front are also larger to allow more air into the 640 hp and 627 lb-ft twin turbo V8 engine.
IT’s also got 21” single-nut wheels and side exit exhausts to let you know that it’s a race car.
Best of all, though, it weighs 25% less in race trim than it does in road trim. That’s an impressive weight savings, but the Urus does still weigh more than 3,600 lbs.
