Despite still being lower than a year ago, the Jetta is the only American Volkswagen this year to sell more than 10,000 units in month so far this year, while overall sales rose just 0.7% for the month of August.
That’s good news for fans of sedans, but it remains the only passenger car to outsell its SUV counterparts.
“We’re happy to see the all-new Jetta gain traction, with sales topping 10,000 units this month,” said Derrick Hatami, Executive Vice President of Sales for VWoA. “By adding new technology without raising the cost, we’ve ensured that the Jetta remains a tremendous value to customers. We see this customer focus working across the lineup, as our two new SUVs, Atlas and Tiguan, are also tailored for this market and are driving our growth this year.”
Sales of the Tiguans and the Atlas impressed against. The Tiguan Limited improved by nearly 30%, the Atlas by 44%, and the 2018 Tiguan improved by 190%. Together, they accounted for more than 12,000 sales—just barely more than 2017’s Jetta figures.
Sales of the Golf, meanwhile, suffered a sales hit of nearly 40%. Only 3,500 of VWoA’s sales were attributed to the whole Golf lineup.
The summer was, at least, good to the Golf R, whose sales rose 220% in August.
