The release of Volkswagen’s flagship sedan will be delayed several months in America as a result of a production backlog in Europe. The Arteon will hit dealer floors in early 2019 instead of late 2018, as was expected.
The problem comes as a result “of delays in the certification process caused by a backlog in meeting WLTP worldwide emissions testing,” a spokesperson told Automotive News.
The Arteon replaces and improves upon the now gone CC. With an elegant, sloping roofline, the car is based on the same MQB platform that sits under everything from the Golf to the Atlas.
Benefitting from a 268 hp version of the 2.0-liter four-pot—the chassis also fits the V6—the Arteon is supposed to raise the bar for luxury and performance from the VW brand.
European reviews of the Arteon have already come in and despite being good, they aren’t great, complaining that the car looks better than it drives.
