Introducing the 610 HP Italdesign Zerouno

[See image gallery at www.vwvortex.com]

Italdesign Automobili Speciali debuted its first ever car at the Geneva International Motor Show today. The somewhat literally nazmed Zerouno will be one of just five built.

The Zerouno’s centerpiece will be the Audi derived 5.2-liter V10 naturally aspirated engine making 610 hp. Routing power through all four wheels, the car will get from 0-60 in just 3.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph).

“We put it our best skills into the production of the first car,” said Massimo Bovi, head of pre-series production. “Using some of the finest productions methods and engaging our high skilled workers.

The result is a car whose every body panel is made out of carbon fiber. Engineers and Italdesigners worked together from the very earliest stages of the Zerouno’s production to make the car as light and strong as possible (though the company hasn’t yet released a weight figure).

On top of making the Zerouno light, Italdesigners have also made it very aerodynamic. Using techniques from single-seater racing, Italdesign has ensured that the Zerouno can use its performance.

A y-duct in the nose ensures that the front wheels are always firmly planted on the ground, while suspended aero features at the back moves up and down to ensure that the Zerouno always has useful downforce without too much drag.

If you really want go all out with the aerodynamics, Italdesign offers the “Corsa” package, which isn’t street legal. The package offers special lightweight wing mirrors, racing seats, a racing spoiler, and a titanium muffler.

Best of all, though, the Zerouno features Pirelli’s latest tires, which on top of featuring all the latest F1 technology, also come in white, red, yellow, or metallic grey.

No starting price has yet been quoted—if you have to ask—and that’s probably because Italdesign wants all five to be “unique.” That means that each will come in a color specifically designed to suit its owner, and a number of exterior and interior options packages will be available. So starting saving your nickels now, because prices are likely include a lot of Zerounos.

Project SportWagen: Going Stage 2 with APR

When we last left you, the humble little SportWagen was fresh from the development process with our friends at AWE Tuning, sporting a new downpipe, exhaust and intake, allowing things to breathe a bit easier.  The car sounded great, but there was no getting around the fact that our wagon was still quite, well, slow.   While we realize that nothing we do to the Golf SportWagen at this point will make it a race car, we still felt compelled to do something .  To put it bluntly, we had a fever, and the only cure was more power. Flash forward a few hours, and we found ourselves at Waterfest, staring down APR’s palatial spread and the numerous tuned vehicles surrounding it.  Earlier in the year, APR had hinted to us that their 1.8 TSI files would be quite impressive, and based on what they were able to do with the 2.0 TSI found in the new GTI and our time in their Golf R, we knew it’d be worth the wait.  So with this in mind, we lined our G...

Novitec, Unsatisfied with Aventador SV, Adds More Veloce

The Lamborghini Aventador SV is no slouch, but if you’re into Lamborghinis, chances are you’re into big numbers. Whether it’s in the bank or under the hood, a big number could, and perhaps should, always be bigger, which is where Novitec steps in. Novitec has been modifying Italian cars for years, and their Torado line is dedicated to making ridiculous Lamborghinis even more ridiculous. Their latest effort takes the Aventador SV and remaps the engine to give it 786hp and 544 lb-ft of toque. They’ve also fitted the car with a new exhaust system that cuts 50 lbs off the car. Other mods include a carbon fiber aero package, spoiler, front splitter and air intake, all of which helps it shed even more weight. The Aventador also sits on 21 (back) and 20 (front) inch Vossen wheels. So if you think that a regular Aventador is just a little too pedestrian, give Novitec a call and they’ll hook you up. Volkswagen Motorsport International Newsletter

With Volkswagen participating in so many forms of Motorsport around the world, it’s often difficult to keep track of their performance. Luckily for us, Volkswagen Motorsport goes through the trouble of rounding up all of the key information from their various race series, and puts it all in one press release. Let’s get started. Global Rallycross Two second places for Scott Speed in Detroit Scott Speed (USA) enjoyed a strong race weekend in the Volkswagen Beetle GRC. Speed finished runner-up in both races at the double-header in Detroit, in the US state of Michigan. The two podium finishes were enough to secure fifth place in the Drivers’ Championship. “To stand on the podium twice is very important to us, in terms of championship points,” said Speed. “We will now look ahead to the next round in Washington, D.C., where we will hopefully be in contention to win.” Only Ken Block (USA) crossed the finish line ahead of Speed in race one. In the second race, Patrick Sandell (S) just had ...
