The Volkswagen Group of America Foundation has donated $50,000 to the Dollywood Foundation’s My People Fund, in support of efforts following wildfires that tore through Tennessee this month.
“Volkswagen would like to express its thoughts and concern for all of those affected by the wildfires,” said David Geanacopoulos, Senior executive VP of Public Affairs and Public Policy, VW Group of America. “Like the Dollywood Foundation, Volkswagen calls Tennessee home, and we hope that our contributions will help our neighbors in Sevier County begin to rebuild their lives and community.”
Forest fires in the Smoky Mountains killed 14 people and damaged or destroyed nearly 2,500 structures in Gatlinburg and Sevier County.
The My People Fund was set up by Dolly Parton, who is originally from the area. It provides $1,000 each month for up to six months to Sevier County families who lost their homes.
Anyone can donate to the My People Fund by visiting dollywoodfoundation.org. One hundred percent of donations go directly to families affected by the wildfires.
