This 1980 Volkswagen Rabbit ist as American as apfle pie und mother’s love having been built at the ill-fated Westmoreland Assembly plant. It then followed that up with the great American obsession, baking in the California sun.
For 12 years, this Rabbit sat and waited, until the patina was just right for forum user Carlifornia, who cleaned it up and unholstered his paint gun to slap some clear coat on it.
Under the hood this Rabbit is packing a 1.6-liter mill, with mechanical fuel injection, sending power to the Borbet C 16×7 wheels through a 4-speed short shifter manual trans.
For his trouble, he’s been honored not only with a first place at the Mother Lode VW Meet, but also by having his rabbit beat on by none other than YouTube sensation, Matt Farah (episode coming in January).
If you want to pick up this Rabbit and pretend that you’ve been on The Smoking Tire to all your face-blind friends, you’ll have to shell out $8,000—although Carlifornia says he’s open to negotiating.
