Europe’s automotive crash safety organisation, Euro NCAP, recently looked back on all the cars it tested this year and ranked the best in every class. As it turns out, Volkswagen’s years of work on the new Tiguan were well worth it, as the 5 Star car has been called the safest Small Off-Road vehicle in Europe.
With near perfect scores in safety for adult occupants, and exemplary scores for child and pedestrian safety, the new Tiguan is one of the best ways to haul your family without little to no risk of scarring them mentally.
The high rating comes thanks to structural and technical safety features. The car’s active hood, for instance, helps reduce head injuries to pedestrians, while Lane Assist and City Emergency Braking helped the Tiguan rate well in the safety assist category.
With the long wheel base Tiguan coming to America soon—premiering in January at the Detroit Auto Show—the safety rating bodes well for that car, too. Admittedly, the American version will more closely resemble the bigger Skoda Kodiaq, which has not yet been rated by Euro NCAP.
