Volkswagen Polo GTI World Rallycross Car Starts Testing

VW’s Polo GTI World Rallycross racer has now started testing.

The car, still wrapped in camouflage, was spotted testing in Mettet, Belgium. The track is host to a World Rallycross Championship event in May.

It’s a revised version of the Polo that won the title for the PSRX Volkswagen Sweden team in 2017, with a more elaborate rear spoiler and new front bumper and fenders.

Current World Rallycross champ Johan Kristoffersson shared driving duties with team owner Petter Solberg as the car completed 25 laps around the circuit.

“It was a good day, not so much driving because there was quite a lot of cars there so we didn’t manage to do so many laps, but it’s always nice to do a little shakedown for the car, team and also for the drivers,” Kristoffersson told Motorsport.com.

Talking about the car, Kristoffersson said that “Maybe [the difference will be bigger] on the tracks that are a little bit more high-speed, but also of course in rallycross it’s very difficult to say because the grip level changes so dramatically from when you are on the track to the next time and it’s almost a year since we were last at Mettet. For sure it would be possible to feel some difference if you do a back-to-back comparison on the same day at the same time.”

Project SportWagen: Going Stage 2 with APR

Event Report: Southern Worthersee 2015

There’s been much ado about this year’s SoWo since this past Saturday night, when Instagram, Facebook and other Social Media channels exploded with images and commentary focusing on the event’s bad eggs.  But first, let’s chat a bit about the event itself. Our journey started early Thursday morning as part of the Orchid Euro/Coolwater cruise to the event.  What should have taken about 12-13 hours ended up taking much more, as we stopped to help any Volkswagen that needed our assistance.  And while the extended commute time wasn’t ideal, it proved to highlight the ‘no person left behind’ spirit of the Volkswagen community- arguably one of the scene’s best qualities.
