2019 Audi A6 Arrives Packed with High Tech Features

The eighth-generation Audi A6 has been officially introduced ahead of its public debut at 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

Following in the footsteps of the new Audi A7 and A8 models, the Audi A6 wears the German automaker’s new design language, featuring “taut surfaces, sharp edges, and striking lines.” Compared to its predecessor, the A6 measures 0.3 inch longer for a total of 16.2 feet. Width has also been increased by 0.5 inch to a total of 6.2 feet, while its height is 0.1 inch taller than before at 4.8 feet. The result is more legroom in the rear, which Audi says not only beats the outgoing model, but its core competitors. Headroom and shoulder room has also been improved, while trunk space remains unchanged at 18.7 cubic feet.

When it launches in Europe, the 2019 Audi A6 will be available with two engines, one diesel and one gasoline. The gasoline powerplant is a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine offering 340 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, while the 3.0-liter TDI brings 286 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque. All engines feature the company’s new mild-hybrid technology, with a belt alternator starter (BAS) working together with a lithium-ion battery. The tech allows the sedan to coast between 34 mph and 99 mph (55 km/h and 160 km/h), with the start-stop function kicking in at speeds up to 14 mph (22 km/h).

But the main focus of the Audi A6 is inside the cabin, which is packed with the latest high tech features, including the MMI touch response system. The all-digital operating system allows central vehicle functions to be placed on the MMI screen using drag-and-drop gestures, just like you would with a smartphone app. Up to seven drivers can store their preferred settings in individual user profiles, setting up to 400 parameters. There is, of course, the Audi virtual cockpit with a 12.3-inch display available, when the car is equipped with MMI navigation plus.

And since Audi is investing heavily into autonomous features, it’s little surprise the A6 has new and refined driver assistance systems. Those features include parking pilot and garage pilot, which autonomously maneuver the A6 in and out of a parking space or garage. There’s also the City assist package that includes new crossing assist, while the Tour assist package features adaptive cruise assist.

At its launch, the 2019 Audi A6 will be offered in 14 different exterior colors, half of which are new. Along with the standard version, buyers can also choose from either the sport or design exterior trim lines, as well as the S line exterior package. The new sedan will launch in Germany this June, so look for North American availability and pricing information later this year.
