Ever wanted to rebuild a Beetle, but just couldn’t afford it? Good news! Now you can do it to your old Hot Wheels. Old, being the operative word here.
Yesterday we brought you an unrestored Beetle and today we’re featuring a Beetle restoration. Sort of. Youtuber BaremetalHW has been restoring Hot Wheels for years now, and the process is fascinating.
This particular Beetle comes from 1968 (according to the video’s title, but the toy itself says 1967, so I’m sure there are Hot Wheels nerds out there who explain the discrepancy) and in the best tradition of the ‘60s it’s a hot pink, front engined, I wanna say gasser?
Whatever the case, to the sugar-fueled mind of a sticky-fingered baby boomer, I’m sure there was nothing cooler than this slightly garish Hot Wheel.
It’s neat to see the inside of a Hot Wheel and to see how the suspension works (elegantly simply, is how). BaremetalHW has plenty of other videos, many more in depth than this one and as a result can be even more fascinating. Unless you’re one of those people who doesn’t like spending time watching a toy taken apart. Weirdo.
