Listen: Huracan Performante Testing at Imola

A new video about any Lamborghini is worth watching, because as stunning as they are to look at, pictures don’t quite do them justice. One of the great things about a Lambo is its beating heart. But a new video about the Huracan Performante is especially exciting.

Germany’s Sport Auto recently had the chance to drive the Huracan Performante, which has been making headlines recently thanks to the wild pace it promises. Namely, that it could come close to setting the lap record around the Nurburgring.

According to Maurizio Reggiani, Lamborghini’s R&D chief, a new type of active aero will allow the Performante to outrun its big brother, the Aventador SV, around the Nurburgring. The V12 Aventador rounds the legendary German circuit in just 6:59, which isn’t far off the time set by the Porsche 918 (6:57), which is the current production car record holder.

According to Motor Trend, the aero system that allows for this operates a bit like an aerodynamic traction control system, moving winglets up and down at the corners of the Huracan to provide downforce over the wheel(s) that needs it most.

Not only does this system increase the effective downforce, it also decreases drag, allowing the Huracan Performante to run faster in the corners and on the straights.

Close examination of the video above unfortunately doesn’t reveal much about the aero system. It’s could be that the winglets are hidden in the Venturis or that simply not knowing where they are on the camouflaged body prevents this viewer form seeing the active aero in action, but please feel free to enlighten us in comments if you see any aero activity.

Regardless, the video is entertaining thanks in no small part to that screaming V10 running around one of Italy’s most legendary tracks.

PZM 73rd Rally Poland Kicks Off

The WRC is in Poland and after only one stage there are three Volkswagens in the top five. Today’s special stage at the Mikolajki Arena is the first stage, but the rally doesn’t begin in earnest until Friday. Today’s super special stage was less than two minutes long, and less than a second separates the top five drivers.
