Not often remembered as the best Golf, the Mk3 was the pivot points between the classic and the modern Golf.
With bumpers incorporated into the bodywork, airbags, and such amenities as air conditioning and power windows the Mk3 was Volkswagen’s first attempt at a truly modern Golf.
The Mk3 also tried to cash in on Volkswagen’s lighthearted image. Special music editions were introduced in Europe for bands such as Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, and Bon Jovi. And it was the Mk3 that the Harlequin color package came on.
It may not have matched the Mk1 for excitement, but it is the car that links it with the Mk7.
