Wolfsburg Press Shop takes Top Position in 2015 Harbour Report

  • Outstanding quality compared with more than 120 press shops throughout the world
  • Large-format press line 500 once again takes first place in category “productivity of transfer XL presses”
  • Thomas Ulbrich: “Wolfsburg press shop plays a key role within the group”

In this year’s issue of the productivity comparison “Harbour Report”, the press shop at the Wolfsburg plant has once again taken some top positions and proved its outstanding performance.

The Harbour Report issued by US management consultancy Oliver Wyman compares and assesses a number of items including the press shops of all the world’s key automakers. On this basis, a comparison of the most productive manufacturers is produced. The current report compares 124 press shops of 18 different automakers.

Thomas Ulbrich, Member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen brand responsible for Production: “In view of its size and significance in the production of parts for the high-volume models of the Volkswagen brand, the Wolfsburg press shop plays a key role within the Group. The outstanding results obtained in the Harbour Reports confirm the successful development of the Wolfsburg press shop.”

Jens Herrmann, Plant Manager at Wolfsburg, said: “Since it was commissioned four years ago, our large-format press has already taken first place in the Harbour Report three times. This result bears witness to the quality and precision of the Wolfsburg plant.”

Large-format press line 500 in Hall 1A took first place in the category of transfer XL presses. The Wolfsburg press shop also did very well in the category of progressive die. Press line 810 in Hall 2 once again took second place.

Markus Lange, Manager of the Press Shop, is also pleased about the very good performance of the press shop: “Once again, our highly motivated team has been a key factor in winning these awards.”

Every day, the Wolfsburg press shop processes some 2,600 metric tons of steel sheet and produces almost half a million body parts. These parts are used for the models Golf, Golf Sportsvan, Touran and Tiguan as well as for the modular transverse toolkit (MQB) platform at 20 other plants. 2,000 people are employed in the Volkswagen Group’s largest and oldest press shop.

Review: Saying Goodbye to the CC V6

For all its size and its global reach, Volkswagen is still, in many ways, a deeply human company. There was, for instance, the Bugatti Veyron an ego project if ever there was one. Then the purchase of Ducati, a move most called folly. And then there was the Phaeton, the Volkswagen that most folks can’t afford. Not only were these moves all strange, I’m sure that they made VW’s accountants furious. None of them made good business sense, but they were all deeply interesting and they all are evidence of the heart that beats at the center of VW. Among these follies is the CC, a car that everyone agrees is rakishly handsome, but that no one really wanted to buy. The car couldn’t last, but the world is brighter for its having been in it. With the approach debut of the Arteon, it seems like a good time to look back on its sadly departing predecessor. The version I drove, because I live in Canada, is a V6 Wolfsburg Edition, which apparently isn’t available in the States. Nor is the V6, not as

Waterfest Moves to Atco Dragway

Waterfest 24 will be held at Atco Dragway, in Atco, New Jersey. The summer event will take place at its new venue on July 21 and 22. Long held in Englishtown, New Jersey, the festival has been such a large part of the VW scene that the latest iteration of the Golf even comes with optional “Englishtown” wheels . The new venue, however, is an NHRA drag track a scant 52 miles southwest of Englishtown. The ¼ mile drag track opened in 1960, which makes it the oldest drag strip in New Jersey. The announcement came today on a social media post that announced the new location. Waterfest is North America’s largest VW/Audi show. As many 20,000 people show up for the annual show, making the second largest show in the world—with Worthersee being number one. 2018 will be Waterfest’s 24 th year in existence.
