JE DESIGN Brings Leon Cupra ST Widebody to Essen

  • Premiere at the Essen Motor Show
  • Widebody in its best form
  • Power increase up to 350 PS possible

It comes from JE DESIGN! The Leon Cupra WIDEBODY Race 350, put on wheels by the refiner JE DESIGN from the Swabian Leingarten, currently holds the official world record for street-legal front wheel drive vehicles at the Sachsenring. Right on time for the Essen Motor Show (November 28 until December 6, 2015), the team led by Jochen Eckelt presents the next blockbuster – a Leon Cupra ST in a customized widebody kit. Power boost, flap exhaust system and complete wheel set support the sporty optics.

A three-part bumper attachment, massive wheel arch flares front and rear, side skirts in carbon look and a rear apron with two molded diffusers make the compact station wagon into a power athlete. The widebody kit in the style of the Cup Racer is available for 4,879 Euro. At a price of 809 Euro, the refiner offers a rear diffuser that fits both the original exhaust and the JE DESIGN flap exhaust system. Sporty and ambitious drivers who want to hunt their Cupra ST down the race track grab the LED rain lights corresponding to the FIA regulations (249 Euro). This can be easily integrated into the rear diffuser.

Such a racy optic needs the right sound! The tuning specialists JE DESIGN know this. They offer a stainless steel flap exhaust system with EC approval for the Leon Cupra ST. This is controlled by the original driving profile selection made by Seat. The driving profiles Normal, Sport and Cupra can be selected. In the profiles Normal and Sport, the exhaust flap is closed and the exhaust sounds sporty but discreet. Cupra mode is different: With the flap open, the exhaust system reveals its full sound – music to the ears of Seat fans. Priced at 2,499 Euro, there is a sound upgrade made of four striking tailpipes with a diameter of 80 millimeters each. For 1,178 Euro extra, the downpipe jointly developed by JE DESIGN and HJS for the flap exhaust system with 76 mm diameter is available. This accessory also has an EC approval.

JE DESIGN emphasizes the sporty appearance with a performance upgrade for the Cupra ST. An additional electronic box allows the power of 206 kW/280 hp to be increased to 258 kW/350 hp with a maximum torque of 440 Nm. It doesn’t top off until a speed of 280. The performance enhancement includes a two-year warranty on engine, driveline and transmission (from the first registration) at a price of 2,299 Euro.

The spring set for 191 Euro, available for the original shock absorbers, provides 20 millimeters lowering. Alternatively, JE DESIGN offers the KW coilover suspension DDC Plug & Play. The application, available for 2,299 Euro, brings the fiery Spaniard as much as 45 millimeters closer to the tarmac.

Complete wheel sets with light alloy wheels from ATS or OZ up to a size of 10 x 19 inches and 265/30 R19 tires complete the offer. Prices start at 2,052 Euro.

All prices include VAT, excluding mounting and painting. Complete conversions are possible directly from JE DESIGN – acceptance by an official inspection organization included. For more information about the products offered, please visit www.je-design.de

Watch: The Stig Drives (nearly) Seven Generations of Golf GTI

With Volkswagen announcing “major” updates to the Golf, it seems an appropriate time to look back on what we’ve had so far. And who better to guide us through the rich history of the most popular European car ever made than Ben Collins, the former Stig? Some say he’s never met a GTI he doesn’t love, and that he can’t grow any of his own facial hair. All we know is … Ben Collins is actually a pretty solid presenter. Working his way through seven generations of the GTI (skipping over the Mk6) Collins tells us a little bit about each one and matches each mark to its corresponding facial hair craze. The Mk1 GTI for instance, is light and quick, but can lose traction under hard acceleration (in heavy rain). Despite that, Collins calls the Mk1 a “pure gem.” The Mk4, meanwhile, is a powerful return to form after the perhaps too sensible Mk3. Collins ends in the only way he could, with the Mk7, which accelerates faster than a Lamborghini Countach and is all kinds of wonderful. Watch, ...

Watch: The Story of the Ads that Made VW Big in America

The ads for the original Beetle are almost as famous and well-loved as the Beetle itself. Looking back now it’s easy to forget, though, just how easily things could have wrong. A new short from Dial M Films tracks the history of those early Volkswagen ads that sold America on the people’s car. The story, of course, begins with the visionary agency that made the ads: Doyle Dane Bernach (DDB). As a popular agency for Jewish products, no agency was more aware of the implications of Volkswagen, and no one, it seems, was more skeptical of the brand than DDB. “Remember Those Great Volkswagen Ads?” from Dial M Films on Vimeo . William Bernbach, though, was adament that the firm take the client, probably as a way of attracting other lucrative automotive clients. Saddled with a client that he didn’t want, art director Helmut Krone says in the film that he originally came up with ads that were all wrong. Krone tried to do what other manufacturers did and was intent on selling the Beetle ...

Watch: The Zerouno Cruis’n USA

ItalDesign is drumming up excitement for its new supercar based around the same 5.2-liter Audi V10 that powers the R8. Naturally, it hit the road for a cruise around California last week to celebrate Monterey Car Week. There isn’t much in the way of V10 noise—which is a real shame given the sound it makes—but you do at least get a good look at the car inside and out in this video. With a body made entirely of carbon fiber and designed to be as aerodynamic and light as possible, ItalDesign figures that it will be good for a 0-60 time of just 3.2 seconds. “We put it our best skills into the production of the first car,” said Massimo Bovi, head of pre-series production, when the Zerouno was first unveiled in Geneva earlier this year. “Using some of the finest productions methods and engaging our high-skilled workers.” The car features clever aero tricks gleaned from single-seat racing, like a y-duct up front to improve downforce and turn-in. Available in a number of trim levels, the...
