Super Trofeo: Sebring World Final Caps Exciting 2015 Season

Sebring / Sant’Agata Bolognese. More than 65 cars, five different winners and five titles awarded. The third edition of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo World Final, in Sebring, Florida, produced exciting races with top-quality drivers enhancing the considerable level reached by the series in the debut year of the Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo.

Patrick Kujala was crowned the 2015 PRO Champion after an intense finale. The Finn, racing with Bonaldi Motorsport, managed two error-free races that granted him the double after the title won in the European Super Trofeo. Kujala won Race One and ended up second in Race Two behind Patric Niederhauser. The Raton Racing Swiss driver, twice on pole, ruled Race Two from flag to flag. But his teammate Alberto Di Folco suffered a puncture while racing second behind Niederhauser. The Antonelli Motorsport duo of Daniel Zampieri and Loris Spinelli managed a second- and third-place finish, achieving second place in the PRO Class ahead of Richard Antinucci and Edoardo Piscopo (Beverly Hills/O’Gara Motorsport).

American Corey Lewis (Carolina/Change Racing) stormed the PRO-AM Class, winning both races in the World Final. Lewis added the World Final title and victories to his Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America PRO-AM championship. Second overall is the Italian/Chinese duo of Edoardo Liberati and Yuan Bo (Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia 2015 PR0-AM champions). Mikko Eskelinen and Kelvin Snoeks (Leipert Motorsport) settled for third.

The AM World Final title went to Ryan Ockey, also the AM champion of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America. The Vancouver/O’Gara Motorsport Canadian driver won Race One Saturday and managed P2 today in Race Two, which was deeply affected by wet conditions and by several safety car appearances. Race Two was won by the X-Bionic Racing Team duo of the two Swiss drivers Laurent Jenny and Cedric Leimer.

The thrilling finale also crowned champions in the Gallardo PRO-AM and AM classes. Brit Jake Rattenbury (Carolinas/Change Racing), already involved in the Lamborghini Squadra Corse Young Drivers Program, and American Brandon Gdovic (Palm Beach/Mitchum Motorsport) took the honors. Josh Hurley (Miami/Musante-Courtney Racing) won Race One but was forced to retire today, while the Bonaldi Motorsport duo of Andres Josephsohn and Ricardo Vera took the flag in Race Two.

Driver quotes

Patrick Kujala #132 – Bonaldi Motorsport (PRO class World Champion): “I’m very happy. I have to thank my team and those who supported me. Today’s race was quite complicated. The early duel with Di Folco and Spinelli allowed Niederhauser to edge away, and thus I’ve finished second. To win the title I only had to focus to keep running, and this is what I did.”

Corey Lewis #29 – Carolinas/Change Racing (PRO-AM class World Champion): “Winning here the World title is simply unbelievable. The support received throughout the season by my team, Carolinas/Change Racing, was the key for my success.”

Ryan Ockey #89 – Vancouver/O’Gara Motorsport (AM class World Champion): “After having won the North American title, there could not be a better ending. Both races were amazing with plenty of action and tough rivals. I’m really happy.”

Jake Rattenbury #24 – Carolinas/Change Racing (Gallardo PRO-AM class World Champion): “My consistency was the key for the success. I’m happy for the title.”

Brandon Gdovic #46 – Palm Beach/Mitchum Motorsports (Gallardo AM class World Champion): “What a finale! Up to the very last lap, all was still on hold. What can I say? I wish to thank my team and all those who stood by me.”

Review: Saying Goodbye to the CC V6

For all its size and its global reach, Volkswagen is still, in many ways, a deeply human company. There was, for instance, the Bugatti Veyron an ego project if ever there was one. Then the purchase of Ducati, a move most called folly. And then there was the Phaeton, the Volkswagen that most folks can’t afford. Not only were these moves all strange, I’m sure that they made VW’s accountants furious. None of them made good business sense, but they were all deeply interesting and they all are evidence of the heart that beats at the center of VW. Among these follies is the CC, a car that everyone agrees is rakishly handsome, but that no one really wanted to buy. The car couldn’t last, but the world is brighter for its having been in it. With the approach debut of the Arteon, it seems like a good time to look back on its sadly departing predecessor. The version I drove, because I live in Canada, is a V6 Wolfsburg Edition, which apparently isn’t available in the States. Nor is the V6, not as

Waterfest Moves to Atco Dragway

Waterfest 24 will be held at Atco Dragway, in Atco, New Jersey. The summer event will take place at its new venue on July 21 and 22. Long held in Englishtown, New Jersey, the festival has been such a large part of the VW scene that the latest iteration of the Golf even comes with optional “Englishtown” wheels . The new venue, however, is an NHRA drag track a scant 52 miles southwest of Englishtown. The ¼ mile drag track opened in 1960, which makes it the oldest drag strip in New Jersey. The announcement came today on a social media post that announced the new location. Waterfest is North America’s largest VW/Audi show. As many 20,000 people show up for the annual show, making the second largest show in the world—with Worthersee being number one. 2018 will be Waterfest’s 24 th year in existence.
