Find Of The Day: Time-Machine 20th

It’s hard to believe the MKIV Golf debuted in North America nearly 20 years ago. These cars are quickly approaching classic-car status. Today’s Find Of The Day, a 2003 GTI 20th Anniversary Edition, is a perfect car to pick up now and hold on to as a future collectible.

Volkswagen created an entirely new category of car when they introduced the GTI. To celebrate the hot hatch’s 20th year in the United States, they created a special model, the 20th Anniversary Edition GTI that features a number of upgrades separating Anniversary Editions (“AE’s” for short), from regular GTIs.

Outside, there’s a painted body kit, 18” Aristo wheels, painted brake calipers, and the return of the original red GTI badges. Inside things get even more exciting; genuine Recaro sport-seats, a leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel with matching leather shift knob, aluminum trim, and a black headliner. Under the hood is Volkswagen’s venerable 1.8T engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. It’s really a stellar mix of equipment.

This 2003 AE has a lot going for it. The key element here is miles. As in not many; 54,000 to be specific. That’s less than 4,000 miles per year. It’s barely broken in (wink emoji). It’s essentially unmolested, save for the blue and white Euro emblems on the wheels, a boost gauge, and a few other bits. This little pocket rocket is pretty much as it left the factory.  It’s a time-capsule of a car.

The current owner, VWVortex member ebro, has taken excellent care of this blue beast. Most recently it had the timing belt and tensioner replaced, the A/C system flushed and recharged, new tires installed, and a few other maintenance repairs.

Project SportWagen: Going Stage 2 with APR

Audi Teases A7 Details with New Video

Audi’s gearing up to unveil the latest iteration of the A7, and to get you excited they’ve released this teaser video focusing on the details. The lights, the lines, the interior are all teased here, and though on its own the video doesn’t give us a strong sense of what the whole car will look like, with all of the other details we’ve seen so far we now have a pretty good sense of what’s coming. As you might expect, the updated A7 will look broadly similar to the outgoing A7, but will differ in the details. Based on what we’ve seen, the changes look good. As was reported yesterday, we’re expecting a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine, a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo, a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, and an RS7 that could reportedly make up to 700 hp thanks to the Porsche Panamera’s hybrid drivetrain.
