Find Of The Day: Porsche Panel? I.’D. Buy It Now And Not Wait

In the market for a unique cargo van? Don’t want to wait for Volkswagen to crunch all the feasibility numbers for the I.D. Buzz Cargo? Then take a peek at our Find of the Day: a 1964 Type 2 Panel Van with a very special motor out back. No, it’s not electric.

While we inch ever closer to the release date for the electric Microbus, it’s going to be a while until they are parked in our driveways. And while Volkswagen has all but guaranteed the passenger version will be available in North America, the cargo version shown at the L.A. Auto Show is not a sure thing.

We all know the market for Type 2s that transport people are on fire; deluxe Microbuses have sold for well over $100,000 recently, and even lousy ones go for solid 5-figure sums. But interestingly, the versions that haul things is quite a bit cooler; panel versions go for less than half what the people-versions sell for. Pro tip: f you want to get into a split-window bus, the delivery van version may be the way to go.

And if you are looking for a fast panel, check out this fully restored 1964. While the I.D. Buzz Cargo has an electric motor out back, this one has something much more fun. The geniuses at Supermaschinen have stuffed a genuine Porsche flat-6 under the rear deck. Well, it actually goes through the top of the rear deck.

Unfortunately, there’s not much detail in the classified ad, so we’ve peeped at all the pictures looking for other fun bits. The suspension has a wicked forward rake that shows this ain’t no ordinary van. The wood-slat roof rack is quite fitting. There’s a set of sport-seats in the cab. And the Empi 5-spoke wheels are re-drilled for (what we assume is) a Porsche lug pattern; a really nice touch.

Some bad news: the van’s in Cologne Germany, and it’s not priced. In what’s kind of jerk move, the seller is just entertaining offers. If it were us, we’d say make a decision and stick an official price on it.

So if you can’t wait for a certain electric panel van, here’s one that’s just as exciting. Take a look at the ad on thesamba.com, and there are more photos on the seller’s Facebook page.

Macau Gets Messy with 16-Car Pileup

The Macau Grand Prix is always good for an accident or two or 16— you may remember Audi’s race ending crash last year —and this year’s event didn’t disappoint. It didn’t take long for things to get messy on the tight road circuit. On the opening lap of the qualifying race a 16-car pileup caused the race to be suspended. Things kicked off when Daniel Juncadella hit a wall on the exit of Police bend, one of the tightest parts of the already tight circuit. The following car of Raffaele Marciello was able to avoid the carnage, but Laurens Vanthoor, who was in the upside-down Audi that ended the race last year, could not avoid Juncadella and together they blocked up the road pretty much completely. “I couldn’t see him [Juncadella] at first. Then I saw the car standing still,” Vanthoor told Motorsport. “I tried to brake but it was just understeering and I couldn’t do anything. There’s room for one car there and you’re blind.” Fourteen more cars would eventually crash into the corner c

The First of its Kind: Integrated Engineering Releases Highly-Anticipated IE450T MK6 Golf R Turbo Kit

After two long years of development, the team at Integrated Engineering has finally announced the release of their IE450T kit for the MK6 Golf R. With their turbo kit bolted on right out of the box, the sport AWD hatch is transformed into a 450bhp monster, with hardly any noticeable increase in spool time. In fact, 435 ft-lbs of torque are achieved at all four wheels, at a mere 3300rpm! By now you are probably asking yourself how this is even possible on a 2.0L engine that made nearly half that power from the factory. By employing true twin-scroll technology into the cast turbo manifold and pairing it with a state-of-the-art BorgWarner EFR turbocharger, IE was able to keep spool time at a minimum and bring the fastest-spooling big turbo setup to the market. “We wanted to offer a kit that would dramatically increase the power output without making the car lose its amazing street-friendly drivability,” mentioned one of the IE engineers. We are told the IE450T leaves the car driving jus
