The 680 hp Volkswagen ID R will be displayed at the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles from December 9th, 2018 until February 1st, 2019.
VW electrified race fans this year when its ID R broke the outright record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, ascending the 12.4-mile, 156-turn course in just 9 minutes and 5.672 seconds. The 680 hp racer was purpose-built for the event, but VW is now considering taking it to the Nurburgring and challenging for the EV record there as well.
But before the ID R does any more record-setting, it will enjoy a well-deserved winter break in southern California.
“It is an honor to have the opportunity to showcase the ID R Pikes Peak race car at a world-renowned museum like the Petersen,” said VW America’s vice president of marketing, Derrick Hatami. “We are excited for members of the public to have a chance to see the record-breaking electric vehicle while it is on display, especially as it leads into the Petersen’s future-of-mobility exhibition.”
“Through our collaborations with Volkswagen, we are able to showcase one of the most impressive electric cars in the world, inspiring our audience to be curious about the future of mobility and the implications it has on the automotive industry as a whole,” added Petersen Museum director Petersen Automotive Terry L. Karges.
The ID R will be a part of the ‘Driving Toward Tomorrow’ exhibition at the Petersen Museum. Details on the exhibition are yet to be divulged, but VW says it will feature concept vehicles, making the ID R “a perfect fit,” for the display.
If you’ve never been to the Petersen, we’d highly suggest checking it out. There’s a lot more to see than just to see the ID R, too, with the museum housing all sorts of automotive oddities in its secretive ‘vault’ as well.
