The Detroit three must be laughing because selling trucks is easy. The ad format has been around since the dawn of time: Hook a truck up to something heavy, pull said heavy thing, ???, profit.
Well, VW is no exception to the rule and it has hooked up its Amarok V6 diesel to a 49-ton tram and pulled it across historic Debrecen, Hungary.
Endowed with its range-topping 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine, the Amarok makes a healthy 255 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque, which is apparently good enough to tow almost 50 tons.
And even though we don’t get the Amarok, or any diesel engines for that matter, we can’t help but hope that VW will someday apply this kind of advertising trick to the American market for a certain tree-themed Atlas variant.
