Apple CarPlay is revered by many and it’s easy to see why, allowing users to essentially display their phone’s content on their in-car digital display.
One major downside to the tech company’s in-car multimedia system, though, is that it didn’t support third-party mapping applications such as Waze and Google Maps, forcing users to use Apple’s own Maps app. That’s no longer the case, however, with Apple announcing at its Worldwide Developers Conference this week that CarPlay will now support third-party mapping apps like Waze.
The change comes as even more automakers climb aboard the Apple CarPlay train and commit to offering the technology in its vehicles. In the past, Apple had typically favored its own apps and limited access to certain apps within CarPlay.
CarPlay also gives iPhone users in-car access to Apple applications such as Apple Music and iMessage, along with non-Apple apps such as iHeartRadio and Spotify.
