The Eifel Rallye Festival is the biggest gathering of old rally cars in Germany. Think Goodwood, but with more dirt and more sideways.
Every big historic car show needs a theme, and this year, the theme is Pikes Peak. The big wing, big turbo monsters that flew up the hill in the 1980s. When rally was at its peak, and the mountain was still all dirt. That means a host of cars that have made the Race to the Clouds, but the headliners are a pair of Volkswagens.
Among the Group B hardware and Pikes Peak specials, the twin-1.8L four-cylinder turbocharged Golfs stand out. Which says something in a lineup of Quattros, RS200s, and big-wing Peugeot 205s. All of which will take on the festival course to show off just what they were capable of.
Watch the trailer and get ready for the big event that runs July 19-21 in Daun Germany. And if you’re lucky enough to be going, they’re auctioning off a co-drive in one of the twin-engine Golfs.
