Volkswagen took the wraps off the I.D. R back in April, but back then it was still raw carbon fiber. Now, VW has revealed what the car will look like when it makes its record attempt at the end of the month.
The car bears an icy grey color scheme with R logos featured prominently along the sides and the front. The color was chosen because, according to the company, it is the trademark color of the I.D. brand. Its proportions and racy disposition, though, mean it reminds of us of a rash of amazing, if historically dubious silver race cars from the ’30s.
The number, meanwhile, 94, was chosen by the team because those are where the letters I and D find themselves in the alphabet.
Volkswagen also reports that it has completed many more strong tests since its first, and that Romain Dumas has had plenty of seat time to get used to the silence and torque of the electric car. His testing regimen will be put on hold, though, as he heads to France for a day-long race in some town called Mans.
We’ll find out of the grey arrow can reach the top of Pikes Peak in less than 8 minutes and 11 seconds on June 24, when it goes for the record.
